Capitol Reef NP, UT
2024.12.25
Part of our Utah mighty 5 national park Christmas road trip. We hiked Hickman Natural Bridge trail on Christmas day, quite and scenic.
Origin of the park name:
- “Capitol”: The striking white Navajo Sandstone domes resemble the prominent dome of the United States Capitol building.
- “Reef”: Early settlers and travelers referred to the nearly impassable ridge of rock as a “reef,” borrowing maritime terminology for a barrier that prevents travel.
